Early Life and Education
Born in Rohtak, India, in 1997, Manushi Chhillar’s parents were both medical doctors, and as an excellent student, she seemed destined for a scholarly career.
In fact, following her studies at St. Thomas’ School in Delhi, where she graduated with a 96% score across her educational boards, she passed the All-India Pre-Medical Test on her first try.
She began to study for a degree in medicine at the prestigious ‘Bhagat Phool Singh Medical College.’
Proficient in Hindi, English, and the language native to her birthplace, Haryanvi, and with excellent skills as a student, she seemed destined for a career in medicine, just like her Mother and Father.
But instead, Manushi balanced her studies with her interests in Dance, becoming an expert in Kuchipudi traditional Dance and Theatre.
All of this eventually led to her interest in pageants, and in 2017 she entered the 54th edition of Femina Miss India.
Pageantry
With her love of tradition and entertainment and her desire to reach, educate, and positively influence Indian women and women worldwide, she put her studies on hold and fully entered the world of Beauty Pageants.
She participated in the “Campus Princess” competition at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in December 2016. and the following year, she entered the Femina Miss India Harayana pageant in April, where she earned the title Miss Photogenic, leading to her participation in the Femina Miss India pageant in June which she won.
Miss World 2017
She entered Miss World 2017 later that year, becoming India’s fourth ever “Beauty With a Purpose” winner, the sixth ever Indian Miss World, and the first-ever woman to hold both titles simultaneously. Upon her return to India, she was greeted by large fans, and Manushi stayed true to her declared intention to bring about change in the country and the world through her education and advocacy.
While Miss World 2017, Chhillar based herself in England and traveled extensively, visiting seven different countries and her native India several times.
She worked tirelessly on charitable projects, raising millions to assist in worldwide campaigns, including raising awareness on Leprosy, Down’s Syndrome, and HIV, as well as helping to rebuild schools damaged in natural disasters and continuing her projects on Feminine Hygiene.
During the Question and Answer portion of the finals, she stated, in response to being asked what she would take away from the competition, that her time with the other contestants and her journey thus far had taught her that she could change the world.
Post Miss World
Chhillar also continued to support the Beauty Pageant world as she understood the value of “Beauty With a Purpose” and of encouraging other influential and admired pageant winners for creating positive change in the world.
However, not content with being one of the most influential pageant winners ever, Manushi took up her other passion of Dance and acting to keep her profile high in the public’s eye.
She has earned the role of Princess Sanyogita in the forthcoming movie “Samrat Prithviraj,” an important historical figure whose achievements echo those of Manushi herself. She also has a three-film deal with the production studios.
Advocacy and Issues
Starting with the local community of her birthplace, Harayana, where she began a campaign called “Project Shakti,” which won an award of $2.8 million. She created a foundation to ensure the provision of free sanitary napkins and feminine hygiene products to all girls at Government Schools.
In a country where menstruation is often severely understood due to religious and traditional prejudice, Manushi started an educational program on feminine hygiene that has undoubtedly, affected many women, saved lives, and helped restore dignity.
She partnered with the World Tour Team and rolled this campaign out across India. She campaigned vigorously for education, the provision of sanitary products, and the removal of the stigma surrounding the subject.
Personal life
Manushi Chhillar is currently unmarried, too busy continuing to grow her brand through acting, Dance, modeling, and endorsements, but has never flinched from her advocacy for feminine empowerment and education.
Special Awards and Nominations
As a passionate vegetarian, she was awarded the title of Sexiest Vegetarian Personality by PETA.
In addition, she has received numerous other prestigious awards and recognition for her works while continuing to inspire and educate women everywhere.
