Early life and Education
Katherine was born on November 15th, 1992, in Ecuador and is the only child to her parents, and has Spanish ancestry from her father’s side.
She became interested in modeling when she was 15 and started doing it professionally after turning 18. Katherine studied in New York for her elementary and high school.
After high school, she pursued modeling full-time and attended several modeling agencies to learn how to be more professional with her work.
Pageantry
Espin has been active in pageantry since 2010, when she first joined the Miss Ecuador pageant.
In 2013 she competed at the Miss America Latina pageant, where she won Best National Costume Award and Best Cultural Costume Award for her costume inspired by Quito’s historical center, which won her second runner-up for Best National Costume Award.
In 2014 she competed at Miss World Ecuador 2014, where she placed 4th Runner-Up out of 8 candidates vying for the title.
She also won the Best National Costume Award for her costume inspired by the famous local dish ceviche, again winning her second runner-up for Best National Costume Award!
In 2015 Katherine competed at Miss Bikini Universe and emerged as the first runner.
Miss Earth Pageant 2016
During her reign, she worked with the Liter of Light Foundation internationally, was named an Ecotourism Ambassador in the Philippines, was given the title of “Honorable Citizen” in Ecuador, and was made an honorary member of the League of Vice Governors in Asia for her achievements as an environmental preservationist.
She has advocated for environmental preservation while visiting Angola, Reunion Island, Ghana, Singapore, the United States, Chile, Puerto Rico, the Middle East, and the Philippines on multiple occasions.
Post Miss Earth
When Katherine Espin captured the crown of Miss Earth 2016, she brought honor to her native Ecuador. Since then, she has received numerous further awards.
The stunning queen has been selected as the new national director of the Miss Earth Ecuador contest organization. José Hidalgo León, the former National Director of Miss Earth Ecuador, has been replaced by Katherine.
