Early Life and Education
Jamie Herrell was born on July 12, 1994, in Glendora, California, United States. Her father, James Herrell, is an American hailing from Washington. Her mother, Mary Snow del Rosario, is a Filipino from Cebu, Philippines.
Herrell spent most of her childhood in the USA before moving to Cebu, her mother’s hometown. During her college years, Herrell majored in Mass Communication at the University of San Jose-Recoletos. She also enrolled at the International Academy of Film and Television to pursue a career in acting.
Outside her studies, Herrell also established a dance company called Mactan Dynamics. She also served as Solid Source Trading’s previous Visayas Managerial Director. Before participating in her pageantry activities, Herrell starred in some short movies and commercials.
Pageantry
Before joining Miss Earth Philippines and Miss Earth in 2014, Jamie Herrell participated in several pageants.
Herrell received three titles in 2013: Miss MegaCebu 2013, Reyna ng Aliwan 2013, and Sinulog Festival Queen 2013.
In addition, she participated in Miss Resorts World Manila 2013, though she did not place in the said pageant.
Miss Earth Pageant 2014
In May 2014, Herrell won the Miss Earth Philippines title, leading her to become the Philippines’ official representative for the international Miss Earth pageant held in the same year.
In November 2014, Herrell received the Miss Earth 2014, becoming the second Filipina beauty queen to claim the Miss Earth title.
The coronation night took place at the University of the Philippines Theater, a theater in the vicinity of the University of the Philippines Diliman Campus, located in Quezon City, Philippines.
The night after her coronation, Jamie Herrell immediately appeared on The Buzz, a Filipino celebrity talk show. During her appearance in the show, Herrell discussed her crowning moment.
In December 2014, a month after her coronation as Miss Earth 2014, Herrell united with EcoWaste Coalition members to launch an anti-firework campaign to prevent injuries and lessen pollution from occurring during the New Year festivities.
Herrell also went back to her hometown in Cebu to hold a victory party for winning Miss Earth 2014 and attended several environmental activities, courtesy calls, and interviews.
She also led the Think Twice campaign, encouraging individuals to look for ways to minimize one’s carbon footprint to help preserve the environment.
Herrell was also a host for the 2015 Makati Earth Hour, an event that raised awareness of the importance of lowering one’s carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption.
Herrell was also part of the Earth Day Bike Parade in April, an event that promoted non-motorized vehicles in favor of the Clean Air Act of the Philippines.
Post Miss Earth
Even after her Miss Earth reign, Herrell continued her environmental advocacies and activities. However, she only officially began her international trip after finishing her assigned tasks in Miss Philippines Earth 2015.
During her international trip, she toured many countries and led environmental activities such as tree planting and lake-clean-up activities. She also appeared in several magazines, newspapers, interviews, and TV show appearances during her international trip.
She was also invited to the Act Now! Conference 2015 in Joensuu, Finland, was held from September 7 to 11, 2015. The conference talked about renewable energy and its benefits to the environment.
In October 2016, Herrell was invited as a judge in the Miss Earth 2016 coronation night held in the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City, Philippines. She was also asked during the launching of Miss Earth Ghana Organization’s Trash in Bin Campaign within the same month.
Herrell became Philippine’s One News and One PH anchorwoman in February 2019. In addition, she was appointed Singapore’s official muse at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.
Advocacy and Issues
Although Herrell is part of several environmental advocacies, she primarily focused on her Think Twice campaign. Besides leading the anti-fireworks campaign in 2014 and the Think Twice in 2015, Herrell also stated that she’s fighting against animal cruelty in an interview with Rappler.
However, she firmly believes in “beginning with the basics” since protecting and conserving the environment starts with doing simple things.
Personal Life
Jamie Herrell is currently in a relationship with Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc. Herrell and Manotoc officially started dating on December 31, 2018, after Manotoc stated in an Instagram post dated December 31, 2019, that they had been dating for over a year.
Special Awards and Nominations
Herrell received a commendation in 2014 from the office of the President of the Philippines for winning the Miss Earth 2014 title. The Senate of the Philippines also acknowledged her win after Senator Manual Lapid made a resolution that congratulated and commended Herrell for besting 83 delegates who joined the Miss Earth pageant.
On February 24, 2017, Herrell was recognized as an Outstanding Individual on the 80th Cebu City Charter Day for her work as an environmental advocate.
